In the last two weeks, CABS investigations led the police to several professional poachers in the mountainous regions of Lombardy.
The men, all hunters with valid licences, shot large numbers of protected songbirds at their hunting sites with the help of live decoys.
At the address of one of the perpetrators, more than 680 dead songbirds were found in the freezer. The birds were plucked, gutted and packed in twenty plastic bags for intended sale on the black market. In addition to robins (photo, in hand), Chaffinches, Brambling, Siskins, Dunnocks and Hawfinches were found.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the poachers.
