The suspicions of the Carabinieri were confirmed when, during the search of the vehicles, cages contained about 40 birds showing obvious signs of mistreatment were foudn.All were protected species such as “goldfinches” and “siskins” intended for resale in the illegal markets of Palermo for 25 to 30 euro’s each.
