Inspectors of the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), in collaboration with the police and the National Inspectorate for Animal Protection (LID), seized 53 birds before and during the bird market in Zwolle. Among other these 27 Goldfinches (Carduelis carduelis). The trader has been arrested.
During a check on a parking lot at the bird market, inspectors found 27 Goldfinches in the car of a Belgian trader on Saturday 29 February. The birds were equipped with leg rings, but these turned out to be false. There is a suspicion that the birds were caught in the wild. The Belgian was arrested and taken to the Police station for questioning. The Public Prosecutor decides how this case will proceed.
