Following a tip off from a member of the public, CABS staff, together with the police and the District Veterinary Office, shut down a huge trapping site in a garden in the west of North Rhine-Westphalia on 09-11-2016. They unveiled 16 Songbird traps, 3 raptor traps and 2 mist nets (photo) and found 34 protected birds.
The garden in the district of Düren was designed with the purpose of catching birds and suspect placed advertisements on the internet to sell the birds. Bullfinches, Serin, Redpoll, Siskins and several Goldfinches were found and brought to a local wild bird sanctuary.
The trapper confessed and is kept responsible. He can expect a criminal case for violation of the Federal Nature Conservation Act.
