Type: MappingImportant Bird & Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) are the sites of international significance for the conservation of the world’s birds and other nature:
- BirdLife has identified 12,000 IBAs worldwide
- IBAs are the largest and most comprehensive global network of important sites for nature conservation
- More than 100 BirdLife Partners provided data on the pressures at their most threatened IBAs
But some of these sites are under most immediate threat from damage or destruction and need our urgent attention: these are the IBAs in Danger.
The map shows the 422 IBAs in Danger identified by the BirdLife International Partnership.
An increasing number of IBAs are under threat from poorly-planned, damaging development that does not take the environment into account.
