The famous bird market on Île de la Cité is not exempted from trafficking in protected species. The ONCFS and the prefecture have arrested 14 traffickers and several Goldfinches were seized.
The National Office for Hunting and Wildlife (ONCFS) assisted by the services of the Prefecture of Police has just communicated the results of the control operation of the market to the birds of Paris that started 27 October 2017. Incredible but true, they found a significant number of protected species transactions by non-professional vendors, in violation of the Birds Protection Act.
Other protected, and therefore forbidden to sell birds that were offered are: Serin, Bullfinch , Greenfinch and many hybrids like the melodious Linnet crossed with the elegant Goldfinch even this one crossed with a Serin
