Over the last few days, our detection and documentation center for bird of prey tracking and species protection crime (EDGAR) has reported indications of targeted Red Kite persecution from three federal states.
For example, in the investigation of a male found dead in the district of Sigmaringen (Baden Württemberg) a shotgun was detected as the cause of death.
Two red kites that died at the beginning of April in the district of Warendorf (North Rhine-Westphalia) have fallen victim to a poison attack, according to the investigation report which has become available in the meantime. The cause of death was a highly toxic insecticide contained in a meat bait.
In both cases, the police are investigating violations of the Federal Nature Conservation Act. There is also a strong suspicion of poisoning with a dead red kite, which was found last week in the district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen (Bavaria) Meat remains in the beak indicate that even this Milan has eaten shortly before his death from a bait. The dead bird is currently being investigated for toxic residues in a specialist laboratory on behalf of CABS
