After almost two and a half weeks, winter camp on Cyprus has now drawn to a close from the Commitee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS). In total their teams have found 63 active trapping sites with a total of 163 mist nets, 308 limesticks and 44 electronic decoys. With police support all illegal trapping paraphernalia was formally seized and criminal proceedings initiated against three poachers.
Approximately 250 birds, the majority of which were song thrushes were released from the nets and limesticks. The poaching is much more widespread in Cyprus during the winter months than previously known. The Committee is therefore planning an even greater deployment for the next winter season.
